Wireless connectivity for the Maxon e-bike platform

Maxon's wireless interface flexibly connects e-bikes to smartphones and third-party devices via Bluetooth LE and ANT+, offering stable, low-latency communication and enabling a personalized riding experience.

Maxon's platform is based on an open, future-proof wireless system, developed with Arendi, offering full connectivity, ANT+ integration and app compatibility for modern e-bike users.

Initial situation, goals & challenges

For its new e-bike platform, Maxon sought a partner for wireless communication. The goal was to develop a wireless module that would enable connectivity to smart devices and ultimately to the cloud via a Bluetooth LE interface. In addition to Bluetooth LE, the module would also be able to communicate with heart rate sensors and e-bike displays via ANT+.

Project results & customer benefits

With this interface, Maxon offers one of the most flexible e-bike systems for modern users who value connectivity, adaptability, and compatibility with current bike technologies. It allows full control over the e-bike and can be connected to smartphones via Bluetooth (BLE) or to other devices from Garmin, Sigma, or o-synce via ANT+. This enables flexible and open networking with various devices and apps for a modern, personalized riding experience.

Implemented solution

Arendi supported Maxon in the design of the wireless module for their new CANopen-based platform. Arendi developed the firmware for the new module as well as the definitions for communication via Bluetooth LE. In addition to Bluetooth LE, ANT+ with the profiles Heart Rate, Bicycle Power, and Bicycle Speed & Cadence was integrated. A .NET MAUI-based library was developed as the counterpart to the module, simplifying communication with the bikes in various apps.
